The VP, Business Development identifies business opportunities for new community -based products and services contributing to CHAMP business plan growth ambitions as well as taking responsibilities for CHAMP’s partnership management.
Based in Europe, the position requires a regular and full-time presence as well as a flexible hybrid schedule. The position holder will be required to travel internationally to meet with existing and prospective customers, represent the company at specific fairs and customer events. The position reports to the Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) and is member of the Senior Management Team.
Accountabilities:
The job holder is in general accountable for the accomplishment of following tasks:
- Identify prospective customers within the air cargo community that can generate substantial growth to the company. In the first instance, the focus will be on attracting and on-boarding large Freight Forwarders for CHAMP’ distribution services.
- Taking responsibility for CHAMP’s partnership management and actively participating in targeted partnerships and acquisitions, managing proactively existing partnerships. This is inclusive of: pricing strategies, contract negotiations, service level monitoring, adjusting/renegotiating partnership agreements, managing/contributing to targeted acquisitions inline with CHAMP 2030 strategy
- Participate in the execution of CHAMP’s business plan which entails the introduction of new community services, partnerships and acquisitions.
- Working alongside the heads of Product Solutions, Marketing, Sales, Service Delivery and Technology Services to define and formulate the key value proposition to the market of the existing services as well as the new upcoming services.
- Where required, provide customers and prospects with high value proposals, presentations on the business benefits and value CHAMP brings to the customer which may include bid management, negotiation and presentations.
- Develop and maintain long term business relationships with the global Air Freight industry, CHAMP Customers and partners
- Collect and leverage market intelligence to achieve established sales objectives and ensure CHAMP’s continued product competitiveness within the market.
- Participating in a number of events and forums to showcase the CHAMP suite of products and services, prospect for new leads and keep up to date with industry trends and issues
- Other duties may be assigned by CHAMP’s executive management
Knowledge, competencies & skills
- Deep understanding of digital transformation trends in logistics & supply chain management including solid knowledge of the air freight capabilities and processes.
- Strong track record in building & maintaining strategic customer relationships, including C-level engagement including the ability to provide effective presentations to C-level customer contacts.
- Experience in driving customer and partnership acquisition and retention strategies within the airfreight industries.
- Strong budgeting and financial planning skills and knowledge.
- Proven ability to tackle and solve complex and ambiguous business problems in a timely manner
- Well-developed organizing, multitasking and prioritization skills. Ability to work in a high velocity environment while working with minimal supervision
- Strong internal and external network of contacts/resources
- Being a strong and effective team leader with the ability to motivate and inspire all team members
- Open-minded team player with proven intercultural competencies
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills including presentation skills
- Willingness to travel frequently for customer and industry engagement.
- Languages: English (fluent verbal and written); additional language considered an asset.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Business Administration, IT, Engineering or similar
- At least 10 years of relevant work experience with proven track record of Business Development within either the air cargo/ logistics industry IT service industry
