Linux System Engineer - SME (Subject Matter Expert)

The role will be reporting to Senior Manager TAS.

Responsibilities

  • Support CHAMP’s portfolio of applications running on Linux (Redhat 7/8/9)
  • Maintain our Java Application on Linux
    • Linux system administration
    • Validate requirements and perform software installations and upgrades on CHAMP JAVA built applications
  • With the team, support and further develop our processes automation with Jenkins, Ansible or RH Satellite
  • Be the technical reference for Linux technical matters.
  • Assist and provide technical guidance to other more junior team members
  • Accompany our future DEVOPS transition
  • Bridge with development and technical teams on technical issues
  • Write documentation and procedures as necessary

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Extensive experience with Linux distributions such as Red Hat, CentOS, Debian, and Ubuntu.
  • Knowledge in Linux kernel development, debugging, and optimization.
  • Proficiency in shell scripting languages like Bash, Perl, and Python.
  • In-depth knowledge of Linux system administration, including user and group management, file system management, and process control.
  • Strong understanding of networking concepts, protocols, and services, such as TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and VPN.
  • Advanced knowledge of storage technologies, including RAID, NFS, SAN, NAS, and iSCSI configurations.
  • Familiarity with virtualization technologies like VMware or Hyper-V.
  • Experience in configuring and maintaining high availability and load balancing solutions, such as Netscaler or HAProxy.
  • Expertise in security hardening and vulnerability assessment of Linux systems.
  • Ability to develop and maintain custom Linux-based applications and services such as Cargospot.
  • Proficient in using Linux monitoring and performance tuning tools, such as top, iostat, and sysstat.
  • Strong knowledge of configuration management tools like Ansible, or Puppet.
  • Would be a plus -> Familiarity with cloud computing platforms like AWS, Google Cloud Platform, and Azure.
  • Would be a plus -> Experience with containerization technologies, such as Docker or Kubernetes would be a plus.

  • Attention to detail: Ensuring accuracy and thoroughness in all tasks, from coding and debugging to documentation and reporting.
  • Decision-making: Ability to make informed decisions quickly, considering both short-term and long-term implications, while balancing risks and benefits.
  • Customer focus: Understanding the needs of internal and external customers and working proactively to address their issues.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Equivalent
